Summertime....

Image
And now the summer is here; slowly yes but its getting severe.... Sweating panting and bathing all day wish for a while the sun would fade away... Come the night and there's still no respite Can't bear the heat try as I might... Sunscreen, umbrellas, glares are out but do they help, I truly doubt.... Drink water, have fruits says mom I've done it all and yet no calm... Crying about it is of no use so no more of these woeful rues.. Look around and watch a while so many things worth a smile.... Light cottons and wearing colors bright not only nature, people are too a delight.. So from now come summertime I will throw a smile and write a rhyme...

Miracles of Nature - An experience called The Solar Eclipse

Image
We all from school times knew what a solar eclipse meant and also scientifically why it occured. But nowadays a day of an eclipse is just like any other. Nobody believes in not eating or not going out in the sun during an eclipse. Today was supposedly the longest solar eclipse of the millenium. We went to the terrace of the Physics Department and watched the mighty sun trying to hide behind the moon for more than an hour. Too bad it was only partial this time. There were quite a lot of enthusiasts out there; faculty, scholars, students, family and children. We saw the eclipse through aluminium sheets, X-ray films, the image through a convex lens and holes pricked on a cardboard box. Then we were told that the rays that escaped between the leaves of trees also looked curved like what was left of the sun. Then Saf and I kept taking pictures of it. If we were at home or elsewhere everyone would have ignored us for being crazy but here at the IIT and particularly at the Physics Depa...

At the rainbow's end....

Image
Today, I saw the most beautiful rainbow ever ... In all my growing years never such a beautiful one.. I had gone for my math classes at a math institute away from the city on a very ordinary sultry summer 'noon in Chennai. After a couple of hours of class and rather fruitful discussion with my professor, I boarded the bus at 5 in the evening and waited for it to finally budge and give us the badly needed cool air which has but become a rarity these days. If there is something I despise about this city, it is undoubtedly the heat. I don't even know how to explain it! Having been born in Dubai and having lived there for almost two decades, I am supposed to have gotten used to the heat. But Chennai is hot in a different way. I have developed a knack of sweating and dripping even while sitting idle in my room with the fan in max speed, let alone when I go out in the sun. Even having bath four times a day doesn't seem to help! As a friend says, it is having bath that makes you ...
